Charlotte's New Rock Alternative

Carolina Panther Steve Smith

It was surprising news when the public, as well as 13 year Carolina Panther Steve Smith, heard there was a possibility GM Dave Gettlemen will release the team's all-time leading receiver. Speculation about 34 year old Smith has been rampant over the past week, with little to no talk coming from Gettleman or Smitty. With a receiving core that has been depleted leading up to free agency, it's hard to guess where the Panthers intend to go from here. According to Smith's representative Derrick Fox to the Associated Press, Smith "is not going to play for the Panthers next year, I know that. I just don't know when the transaction is going to take place." According to Fox the Panthers have been trying to trade Smith, but expects him to be released. UPDATE 3/13: We'll miss you Smitty. #panthernation
