Jared Leto Is Out For Blood In First Trailer For Sony's 'Morbius'

Cancel your plans for summer 2020 because Morbius is coming.

On Monday (January 13), the newest Sony's Marvel Universe film dropped its first trailer.

Oscar winner and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto stars in the lead role of Biochemist Michael Morbius. After finding out he has a rare blood disease, he goes to great lengths to try and cure himself. For comic book fans out there, Morbius is first seen in The Amazing Spider-Man #101.

For those not familiar with the lesser-known Spider-Man character, the almost three minute trailer does a fairly good job at explaining his backstory. “I have a rare blood disease and I'm running out of time,” he explained in the trailer. “This could be my last chance.”

As you'll see in the trailer, Dr. Morbius attempts an experimental procedure involving bats that have some pretty major side effects — including turning into a pseudo-superhuman vampire. Not only does he get incredible strength and speed, Morbius also has echolocation, and the urge to consume blood.

So as you can guess, Morbius is no hero as Leto is back in the role of a villain.

Leto first gave fans a taste of Morbius in March 2019 with a set photo and then again on Instagram one month later of a hoody-clad Morbius staring blankly on a busy city street as people rush past him.

Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Adria Arjona also star in the upcoming film slated for a July 2020 release.
