Half-Mile-Wide Asteroid Headed toward Earth

A massive asteroid measuring more than a half-mile wide is headed toward Earth, according to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

However, despite the space rock's size, there's no need to panic; NASA officials say it will miss the planet by 0.01324 astronomical miles when it passes Earth next week.

While that might not sound like much, it's equal to 1,230,734 actual miles.

Nevertheless, NASA officials say it will be the closest the asteroid, known as 7482, will come to Earth for at least 200 years.
