We live in a world where people are obsessed with their phones, and a new study out of the UK finds most parents spend at least the equivalent of $700 on the first smartphone they buy for their children.
Seventy-seven percent of parents admit they spent more than $700 on their child's "first phone;" and 25 percent with a child age six or younger said their kid already has a smartphone. Also, 80 percent of parents say they aren't capping the amount of time their children spend on their devices.
Liam Howley, with MusicMagpie, the company that commissioned the survey, adds, "The age at which children get their first phone has gotten even younger, and while many agree there's no defined age to give a child a phone, there's a lot parents can do to ensure their child's day-to-day life isn't consumed by one."
