David Linden, a professor of neuroscience at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine explains, "When touch is wanted, it basically communicates, 'I'm on your side.'"

Experts say by being more mindful about when and how we touch our significant others we can give our relationship a quick and easy boost.

So how does it work? When your significant other touches you you experience a surge in the hormone oxytocin, or the "love hormone," in your brain, which helps to sustain feelings of deep attachment. In other words, the couple that touches develops deeper bonds.
