We have never been in an avalanche. We have never been near an avalanche, but we had NO IDEA they did things like this. Imagine thinking you're at a safe distance from an avalanche and so you whip out your phone to video it...and then you suddenly realize you're not at a safe distance at all. That's what happened to these hikers in Kyrgyzstan. Fortunately, everyone's okay. It seems at first like they are going to have no problem and that changes faster than anyone can really react. Luckily they were able to get some cover from some rocks and only ended up with some scrapes and bruises.
