When major players in music culture have opinions to express about the climate of music today, it is interesting to see whether or not you may share the same sentiments. Legendary U2 front man Bono recently shared a hot take during an interview with Rolling Stone: In response to a question asking where and how he discovers new music, the rocker explained that he hears new music from his children, who are into rock and hip-hop.
He shared that his son Eli, who is into rock, explained that, "He believes that a rock & roll revolution is around the corner." When asked if he believed that, Bono replied, "I think music has gotten very girly. And there are some good things about that, but hip-hop is the only place for young male anger at the moment -- and that's not good."
He went on to explain that when he was making music at a younger age, he was filled with rage and music can be best expressed when those emotions are added in. "When I was 16, I had a lot of anger in me. You need to find a place for it and for guitars, whether it is with a drum machine – I don't care," Bono said. "The moment something becomes preserved, it is fucking over."
The musician also touched on a number of topics, including making streaming-friendly music, the state of U2, and the refugee crisis in Europe.
