Our 2018 iHeart Radio Music Award Nominees are out. I know that "rock" and "Alt" fans feel like we get the shaft every year at award shows. It feels like the "big" shows are too busy celebrating pop, hip hop & country to think about the "Rock" genre. When they do, it's usually ALL WRONG. It's been going on a LONG time. In 1992 Jethro Tull beat Metallica out for the Grammy for Best Metal/Hard Rock recording. Really? A flute beat Metallica?
While I don't think the iHeart Radio Music Awards are much different from a performance stand point, I do think we got the categories and nominees right. I'm sure we'll see performances from the usual supects perform. Artists like The Beebs, Rihanna, Etc. I'm OK with that because I know that Rock and ALT are niche. I'm OK with that because I celebrate not being part of "the norm." I LIKE being different and I LIKE bands that are different.
All that said, I do appreciate that these awards are a little different. These are artists you've heard all year on your favorite iHeart Radio stations and radio across the globe. This year, the ALT and Rock nominees are actually very respectable. Here are your nominees:
