Wake Forest Basketball Coach Charged in Deadly Assault Case

Jamil Jones, a Wake Forest assistant men's basketball coach, has been arrested on suspicion of deadly assault. Jones allegedly punched Sandor Szabo around 1:15 am last Sunday in Queens, New York, which then caused him to fall and hit his head on the concrete, police said.

Szabo, a resident of Boca Raton, Florida, mistaked Jones for his Uber driver and was banging on car windows. According to sources, Szabo never regained consciousness after being punched by Jones and was taken off life support on Tuesday.

Jones, a 35-year-old of Kernersville, North Carolina is pleading not guilty. Jones' attorney, Alain Massena, told the AP, "This was a tragic accident, and Mr. Jones and his family send their deepest condolences and their thoughts and prayers to the Szabo family."
