Millennials are now being blamed for a new thing—a drop in the sales of potatoes.
According to a report published by The Grocer, potato sales have fallen by 5.4 percent since 2015.
The magazine says millennials are shunning potatoes in favor of “healthy, convenient and exotic” carb options.
Also likely to blame—the fact that potatoes can take a long time to prepare, as sales of microwaveable rice have drastically increased in the same time frame.
"I believe that all people - in fact, all Americans and people who want to Make America Great Again around the world - need to realize the greatness of the noble potato, so that these sales will rebound," said American Radio Presenter Toby Knapp. "The irony is that the noble potato is a good and decent root, which means so much to so many, and when served with chives, scallions, butter, cheese and other such toppings, is not just fun, it's also tasty."
It's unclear why Knapp commented on this story.
